Les Fleurs du Mal - Full Performance

Artist Statement

Christopher L. Jones, a PhD candidate at Bowling Green State University, created this adaptation Charles Baudelaire’s The Flowers of Evil as a capstone project.

Jones invited my collaboration as lighting designer to craft an environment for the installation and to support the performance. The design was semi-improvisational in a truncated technical rehearsal process and worked in dialogue with the piece as conceived as both evolved during rehearsals.

Jones writes of this work: “Inspired by the infamous book of poetry by Charles Baudelaire and in celebration of the centennial of Surrealism this performance used traditional shadow puppets, found objects, digital video and animation and an immersive audioscape created specifically for the performance.”

A recording of the show is available on Jones personal website https://jonesing.com/home and embedded above on YouTube.
