Artist Statement
The dancers of Into the Presence of Still Air find themselves transported between several fractal planes of existence. Though they share similarities with elements like the pulsing grid upstage or the shimmering floor below, light signals the shift from one plane to the next. The move between each is foretold only by the ticking of a digital clock that, at times, sounds as if it might be on the verge of collapsing back into itself. As the planes shift, the movement transitions from flowing freely through the space to adhering quite strictly to invisible tracks in the floor or being siloed off into a small section of the space.
