Artist Statement

The design for Silent Sky was partly inspired by the playwright’s inclusion in the script that the stars in the sky be ever-present.

From this, a sort of layered abstraction was conceived where downstage hung chandeliers in the two home units which were fitted with frosted globe lamps, then mid-stage were a series of hanging orbs which blended into the last layer, the pinpricks of light from the star-drop curtain upstage.

The color palette was pulled from the lifecycle of stars; from dim ambers to piercing blues, reserving the the use of not-stellar colors like magenta and green for dream sequences where the characters enter worlds of fantasy.
